What is Psychotherapy?

Psychotherapy is a form of therapy that helps you gain insight into why you think and feel the way you do. It aims to address the source of your troubling thoughts and symptoms, so you gain understanding on what drives you, helping you to make the changes you want in your life. Psychotherapy can help you to better understand your emotions and relationships, to discover deeper aspects of yourself, and to open up to more fulfilling ways of being and living.

Psychotherapy can help with a broad range of issues:

  • Stress & anxiety
  • Low mood & depression
  • Trauma (childhood / adulthood, & the impact of trauma)
  • Shame
  • Relationship breakdowns
  • Difficulty relating & connecting to others
  • Loneliness
  • Abuse (emotional, physical, sexual, neglect, self-abuse, bullying)
  • Grief & loss (of a loved one, health, home, culture)
  • Self-hatred & self-harm
  • Body shame & body discomfort
  • Low self-esteem & perfectionism

Therapy is somewhere you can come to talk, confidentially, about whatever it is that affects you. It’s a safe space for you to be heard, a space where you can begin to understand yourself and the world around you, where words can be found to make sense of confusing feelings and experiences.

What Are the Benefits of Psychotherapy?

Emotional Support
Psychotherapy provides a confidential space where you can freely express your thoughts and feelings without judgment. This supportive environment allows you to process emotions, explore difficult experiences and gain clarity. The therapeutic relationship itself can be a source of comfort and validation, helping you feel understood and less isolated.

Better Relationships
Effective communication and healthy interpersonal skills are crucial for building and maintaining relationships. In therapy, you can explore patterns in your interactions, understand relationship dynamics and learn new ways to connect with others. This can lead to more fulfilling and harmonious relationships, whether with family, friends, or romantic partners.

Increased Self-Awareness
Understanding yourself is a key aspect of personal growth. Psychotherapy encourages deep self-reflection and helps you become more aware of your thoughts, behaviours and underlying motivations. This increased self-awareness can lead to more intentional choices, better self-regulation and a greater sense of control over your life.

Take The First Step

When you’re ready to take the first step, please give me a call or write a quick email to arrange a 15-minute initial call where we can discuss what brings you to therapy and how I can support you. We can then arrange to have an initial session.

During the initial session, you will have a chance to share what has brought you to therapy and how it is impacting your life, for you to voice your expectations or any concerns you might have. Our initial session is also a chance for you to see if you would feel comfortable and would like us to work together.

The therapy space is unlike any other, and if we work together, I will encourage you to explore your inner feelings and beliefs, where do they stem from, how they affect your life in the here and now. We will work towards greater internal security and peace, towards greater freedom.
